Star Plus and the Super-Exaggerated Expressions!!!

Just today, after a very long time, i was watching this program which i'm sure many pakistani and indian women are familiar with, famous because of its beloved heroine 'Akshara'. Yes, i'm talking about 'Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai'. And this is very surprising even for me that i actually remember the name so well, and i'm not going to deny that i'm actually proud of this fact, not because you guys might think that i really like this program, that is completely far from the truth. But the fact, that i have gained a huge lesson in human patience by being able to watch this program, every 5 days of the week at sharp 10;30 pm in karachi, for the insufferable three months that i just spent there recently. Yes, after coming back to dubai, i started counting my blessings, one of which includes, getting rescued from the daily Akshara torture.

Alright, maybe, i've exaggerated a little, the three months in pakistan, were not insufferable, they were actually very amazing, but anything linked with star plus, makes my life insufferable.
The thing with this drama, program, daily soap, or whatever you call it, is the fact the everyone looks so bloody fake in it. The weird expressions on every one's faces, the funny, huge, freaky smiles, that don't seem to fade away at all. For e.g, bhola or some character of that sort, usually involved in doing ghar ke kaam wagaira, had to go get some groceries, and this is how he goes about it; eyes completely wide-open, ready to pop-out, a goofy ear-to-ear smile on his face, and says, "Acha amma, ab hum bazaar jaahuth hain". And the reaction from the amma is of course the usual huge, and equally comical looking, ear-to-ear smile, which is hilarious when watched occasionally, although im my case when it becomes a daily torment, it just simply pisses me off.

I do not get it, what has happened to originality, showing real, actual, believeable emotions, how can women, tune themselves to these daily programs, which seem so pointless and are highly boring. Although i have made an observation that the storyline is pretty much the same in every sort of program, whether be it english pakistani or indian, it is all usually always about, love hate hypocrisy friendship, same old stories and same patterns emerging from every program, but what really makes the difference is the direction, the acting, the ability to be able to connect with the actors, and humour and sarcasm, which makes the program genuinely funny and a realistic storyline. These are the necessary ingredients for any program and any soap. I believe, Indian TV should definitely try changing their style, or else, the audience particularly the women who end up watching it, will eventually always stay the same, weird and totally fake.

Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza.

Finally, the controversy ends.
I’m sure the after math of this whole complicated mess, has left everyone a little sad, especially Geo TV and Star News. The most disappointed of all the people would be the media since their TRP ratings had only increased thanks to Ayesha Siddiqui.

However, I’m still wondering, who out of all these three families, (Maliks, Mirzas and Siddiquis), has really gained. All of them have been terribly humiliated, including Ayesha, and even though she must be under the impression that she has finally gained justice and all, but it really seems that all she was planning to do was cause trouble and gain attention. I believe she could have sorted this all out respectably, by talking to the families concerned or by taking legal action instead of going to the media. Media has no power over legal issues, it is known only for exaggerating everything and had she been genuinely smarter, she would have wasted less time in thinking over different ways of how to insult shoaib malik and put more time in getting a quick solution to this mess which both she and shoaib had originally created.

Osama Bin Laden - Where is he!! but do we even care now !?!

Does it even matter whether Osama bin laden Exists!!!
Recently i have started alot of news reading, and the current situation in Pakistan makes me cry. It first started off with bombings in Rawalpindi, and then in Peshawar and just now, Lahore got hit as well...and now i wonder who's the next victim!!!

And apparently the news still reports that the West is still in the lookout for Al-Qaeda's leader, Osama Bin Laden's, whereabouts and i wonder, whether its even necessary. I mean, everyone knows its not a one-man show, whatever is happening, and whoever is involved behind all these attacks, its definitely a whole team, someone with a lot of power and money, and a lot of intelligence information to be able to carry out, not just all these attacks but also be able to infiltrate the Pakistan's government (Although, i'm not so surprised since the government is so corrupt and weak, that penetrating it would be like taking a stroll in the park.)
And in such a case as this, it doesn't really matter who is at the top, this reminds me of the movie spiderman 3, where there is this Sandman, and whatever part of his body you cut off, he still grows back. So eventually even if the West does get lucky in finding Osama Bin Laden, it still wouldn't matter, because even if they take away Osama, the apparent mind of their team, Taleban would still figure out a way to grow it back!!!

The Reluctant Fundamentalist - Mohsin Hamid

Funny isn't it, when you read a book, and when you eventually get involved in it completely, the characters' lives start imitating yours, their feelings start becoming yours and you then realize that what in fact you are thinking and feeling and the arguments you are having in your head are exactly what goes on in everyone's heads, and also the fact what you think you only experience, has actually been experienced before, and has been going for centuries, its just that you are very new to it.

Right now i probably sound confusing but all these thoughts have been going on in my mind due to the reason that i have just right now completed reading this really serious book, "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", and although initially i didn't really like it, as a matter of fact i was a little too quick to criticize it, i never gave the protagonist's character the time to develop. I had already become biased against him and had already formed an opinion of him and pictured him to be as someone i actually know and although it was very much like him initially, however i was wrong. I had been too quick to decide, and as the story developed i realized that the protagonist was just a confused person in life, someone i can relate to, someone that anyone can relate to, and the fact that all the mental anguish he was suffering with, is so common in our society and in our generation and particularly in my generation that while reading his story i could detach myself from the mental anguishes going on in my head and probably have a more positive outlook on life, also giving me the feeling as if i am some third person looking in, in my own life.

A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini

I never knew i could ever cry while reading a book. I've never cried in movies and i definitely never cry in front of people, but if there is anything that has moved me, it is this book.

I don't deny, its not probably the sort of book you read to kill time with and its not the sort of book that you can do light-reading with, but it is the sort of book that shows you that the life that we are living is so amazing Alhamdulillah, and the realization that our suffering is nothing in comparison to what a million people are suffering right now...

This book delves into the lives of two afghani women, and the torment and suffering they endure during their lives. While reading it, you realise how much pain a person can endure for the people they love and yet be able to survive all of that. It is very impressive and yet at the same time saddening that there can be so much suffering and torture, however at the same time, there is hope. A hope for a better future, a hope for a better life and always a hope that everything will be fine eventually...

Before i leave i'd like to end with this quote by Saib-e-Tabrizi,

"One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs,
Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls"

Thats why i hate group convos, firstly...u hav to not only just get the flow of the conversation..but u always have to be witty whenever u say something particularly when it is the first time u are chatting with those people!!! I meann...u cant just say..'hehe' and go on like that..cos thn it gets boring...and thn u cant say something overly smart cos thn not everyone gets the joke..so the smartness has to be toned down(& is always a problem wid me:P) !!! and well...the dumbness aswell!!!
